In Le roi du golfe viewers embark on history buff Jacques Charest and diver and filmmaker Mario Cyr’s quest to find a long-forgotten shipwreck in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. One stormy day in 1875 a schooner named La Canadienne sank off the coast of Nova Scotia, the shipwreck has never been found. This documentary film takes viewers on the hunt for the shipwreck, but also introduces them to the life of Captain Pierre-Étienne Fortin, a man who marked the history of our country. As Le roi du golfe unfolds, viewers gain insight into the ship’s journey and the tragic day on which it sank. Le roi du golfe is a surprising quest for an important piece of our history.
